Caffeine content of Coffea arabica var. laurina
Thomas W. Baumann ยท Phytochemistry 49(6) ยท 1998 ยท agris.fao.org
The measurement behind the Laurina caffeine figure. Establishes roughly 0.6% caffeine by dry weight against about 1.2% for standard arabica.
How much weight this carries
Well established. Safe to rely on as stated.
What it says
- Laurina measures around 0.6% caffeine by dry weight โ Approximately half the roughly 1.2% typical of standard arabica.
What it does not say
- Half is not decaf. A cup of Laurina carries far more caffeine than a cup of decaffeinated coffee, and describing Laurina as a decaf alternative for caffeine-sensitive drinkers is a meaningful error.
Recorded because the errors in this subject all point one way: toward claims more confident and more flattering to decaf than the evidence supports.
