Mountain Water Process

Descamex · 2026 · en.descamex.com.mx

The plant's own description of the Mountain Water Process. Notable mainly for contradicting the figure that roasters print on Mountain Water bags.

How much weight this carries

Reasonable, but not settled. Worth stating with hedging.

What it says

  • Descamex state decaffeination exceeding 97% — "Descafeinización que supera al 97%" — in the plant's own words, on its own site.
  • Water-based, carbon-filtered, recirculated, with a proprietary triple drying system
  • Run in Córdoba, Veracruz, using water from the Pico de Orizaba watershed — The process dates to 1987.

What it does not say

  • Descamex do not claim 99.9%. That figure circulates widely on Mountain Water bags and in roaster copy, and it did not come from the plant — it appears to have been borrowed from Swiss Water's separate guarantee.

Recorded because the errors in this subject all point one way: toward claims more confident and more flattering to decaf than the evidence supports.

Worth flagging as a live example of how a number migrates between processes until it stops being attached to anyone’s actual claim.
